Shopping Tour ..!

2006-05-09.jpg

At last ... my favorite pastime. ... Go shopping at Shipchandler :-) Besides shackles and other small parts our focus was on an additional anchor, together with a chain and anchor line 50. What for? Well, our main ground tackle consists of a 48 kg Buegelanker (with which we are VERY happy) and a 50 m-13mm thick anchor chain. When you consider that we have been anchored on average to about 4-6 m water depth, so a light one, which was far enough, especially since we einschäkeln the end of the chain usually have 50-10 m anchor line as a shock absorber. Drifting through the anchorage and similar jokes were still with us so far spared. The other day we had to anchor on 12m water depth and time and we are then used at the 50m limit. Probably will now call the back - it's enough fat - but not us. Enough space provided we throw more chain rather than too little. 12m deep and 50m chain in calm conditions are certainly not a problem, it should however be stormy, it can be critical, since then may not have enough chain is located on the ground. So ... extend chain. But what? To see all the facts in the eye, a total length of 100 m would be almost ideal. 50m are already there, thus missing 50th But ... we will extend the chain or better dransetzten 50m anchor line? When you consider that 50 of our chain weighing about 200 kg, which are then also in the anchor locker, pondering comes you have to go. Also on this subject there are many different opinions and arguments. Please note include durability, strength, potential exposure in tips, weight, etc. etc. I can not and will not explain here all recommend to the interested but highly the book "Better anchors" from the bowline Verlag. The authors explain it objectively, using mathematical formulas and physical laws of the advantages and disadvantages of various ground tackle variations. Why an additional anchor? We said we had two on board. In addition to the 48 kg bracket on the bow, we still have a second 48 kg bar tucked inside the ship. So then, however, and when you need an anchor at the stern to turn the ship against the swell and the wind. Or schäkelt shortly after the first Anchor an additional second Anchor to assist in not very good reason, the main anchor. In both cases, however, this anchor can not absorb most of the burden ... that makes even the main anchor. Since it also would be quite an arduous 50 kg per Dinghy anchor deploy, had to a third Anchor ago. Long story short ... we .. we have a 50 kg anchor rope (26mm) and as Drittanker for a 14th Danforthanker 2.5m with 10mm chain decided to lead with this equipment and our abundant hawsers on board, we should not come as quickly ankertechnisch in trouble! Antifouling and primer for future proceedings in Venezuela we have no way purchased. As reported by the marina is everything - even in good quality - available on site. Finally, we now have everything together. For the tour "around Central America" should we be safe. ATTENTION SPONSORS!
